Department of Safety & Homeland Security Announces Extended Saturday Hours for Memphis, Nashville Driver License Reinstatement Centers

NASHVILLE--- Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons announced today that the department will open its driver license reinstatement centers in Memphis and Nashville for extended hours of service on Saturdays for the next several weeks.  The two centers are currently experiencing a high volume of customers seeking to reinstate driving privileges.

The Shelby Drive Driver Services and License Reinstatement Center, located at 3200 East Shelby Drive in Memphis, and the Murfreesboro Road Driver License Reinstatement Center, located at 1601 Murfreesboro Road in Nashville, will open for service from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on March 14, 21 and 28, April 11 and 18. (The special Saturday hours will not take place on April 4, which is Easter weekend.) These extra hours of service are for reinstatement services only.

“Driver license reinstatement transactions are more complicated and take longer to process than renewals or initial issuances. We typically see an increase in these transactions this time of year, when citizens use income tax refunds to pay off fines and fees,” Commissioner Gibbons said. “We want to do what we can to help citizens who need this service and make it more convenient for them to get back their driving privileges. We also encourage citizens to visit our website. Many driver services, including paying reinstatement fees and license reissuing after reinstatement can be processed online,” Gibbons added.

To access online driver services, citizens may visit https://dl.safety.tn.gov. Here, citizens may also check to make sure they have the correct documents before visiting reinstatement centers to avoid delays and possible returns for service.

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security’s (www.TN.Gov/safety) mission is to serve, secure, and protect the people of Tennessee.
