NASHVILLE -- June 6, 2015, it is with the extreme sadness that the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) conveys the following information. Earlier today Sergeant Joshua (Josh) Mabe, a 10 year veteran of the THP, was killed during a farming accident on his family farm in Sneedville, Tennessee.

Josh was working on the frontend loader of his tractor after he had loaded several bales of hay. As he was working on the frontend loader, the loader dropped and struck Josh. After being struck, Josh then succumbed to his injuries and died doing what he loved to do, which was working on the family farm.

Josh held an Associate Degree from Walter State Community College, and a Bachelor's Degree from Tusculum University. In 2005, Josh was selected to the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security Training Center as Tennessee state trooper cadet. Upon graduation from the state trooper academy Josh began his career as state trooper in the THP Fall Branch District. In 2008, Josh was selected as the Fall Branch District Trooper of the Year. In 2015, as his career continued to progress he was promoted to sergeant over Grainger County.

Colonel Tracy Trott Commander of THP stated, "This is a terrible loss for the THP. Josh was an up and coming star for THP. Josh stood for everything that THP stands for. He will be missed terribly."

Josh was a friend, husband, father, and a very committed family oriented person. He is survived by his wife Victoria, their 5 year old daughter Addilyn, and his father and mother Kenneth and Velma Mabe. THP asks that you please continue to remember Josh's family in your thoughts and prayers.

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security's (www.TN.Gov/safety) mission is to serve, secure, and protect the people of Tennessee.
