THP's Criminal Investigation Division Arrests Driver License Examiner on Theft Charges

MEMPHIS –- The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) arrested a driver license examiner at the East Shelby Drive Driver Services Center in connection with a possible theft scheme on Monday, March 17.

Constance Slater, 41, was taken into custody and charged with forgery and theft of property of $1,000. She was booked at Shelby County Jail East. 

The Driver License District Supervisor notified CID of the suspected theft at the Hickory Ridge Reinstatement Center on Wednesday, March 12. The suspect allegedly stole $75.00 and then forged an official document to conceal the crime. CID investigators began an initial investigation to which the suspect became aware and subsequently resigned on Monday.

The suspect arrived at the East Shelby Driver station to turn in her uniform on that day and was arrested on site. She did admit to the crime after questioning by THP officials.

“We moved on this matter promptly with an investigation and the resulting charges. We take any allegation of criminal activity by our employees very seriously. Anyone who is suspected of stealing from the state will be swiftly investigated and held accountable,” Commissioner Bill Gibbons said.

The investigation is ongoing.
