Dresden Driver Services Center to Merge with Neighboring Centers

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announced the Dresden Driver Services Center will merge with surrounding centers in Paris, Trenton and Union City as part of an effort to improve effectiveness and efficiency with the state’s driver license services.

The Dresden Driver Services Center, located at 8595 Highway 22, will stop serving customers at the close of business on Friday, November 6th. Centers in Paris, Trenton and Union City will serve Tennesseans that reside in the area, with staff positions in Dresden being transferred to one or more of these centers.

“Merging certain driver services centers is part of our plan to enhance customer service and overall efficiency at centers across the state,” Commissioner Bill Gibbons said. “By merging these centers, we can use our resources to better serve the citizens and save taxpayer dollars.

The three area centers have adequate space to take in the staff from the Dresden center and offer a quality environment. The centers will be equipped to serve all customers in an efficient and timely manner.

The three centers are open from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (CDT), Monday through Friday. These facilities are full-service centers offering driver license, identification card issuance, motor vehicle records, vision testing, knowledge and skills testing, and handgun permits. The Union City center also serves as a license reinstatement center.

The mission of the Driver Services Division is to promote safe, knowledgeable, and competent drivers in the State of Tennessee. Using diversified program offerings, the Division is able to provide various services to Tennessee Citizens. The Driver Services Division is responsible for testing and issuing driver licenses as well as offering voter registration and issuance of driving records.
