Department of Safety & Homeland Security Identity Crimes Unit Arrest Murfreesboro Woman for Bribery of a Public Servant

NASHVILLE – A Tennessee state trooper assigned to the Department of Safety and Homeland Security’s Identity Crimes Unit today arrested a Murfreesboro woman for attempted bribery of a driver’s license examiner at the Murfreesboro Driver Services Center in Rutherford County.

This is the second arrest in approximately one month of an attempted bribery at a state driver services center. A citizen was taken into custody on February 19 after attempting to bribe a driver’s license examiner at the Summer Avenue Driver Services Center in Shelby County.

Minleshia Shante Martin, 25, of Murfreesboro was charged with bribery of a public servant (class B felony) and booked into the Rutherford County Jail.

On March 19, a Rutherford County driver license examiner was offered $50.00 by the customer for a driver’s license. Martin had hand-written a note on the back of the servicing ticket, which read “can I pay you $50 for my DL + the ID charge,” and presented it to the examiner.

After noticing the note, the female examiner told the citizen that she would not accept the money and asked if Martin wanted to take the written test for a driver’s license. Martin declined the test, explaining that the questions were “tricky.” The examiner proceeded to issue a new identification card only.

The examiner then immediately notified Trooper Shawn Boyd of the department’s Identity Crimes Unit. He initiated the investigation and located Martin at her residence on Friday, March 20. She gave a full confession and was placed under arrest for bribery of a public servant.
