THP Announces New Captain to Oversee the Protection Services Division

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Colonel Tracy Trott today announced the promotion of Thomas (Tommy) A. Fyke to Captain over THP’s Protection Services Division.

Fyke previously served as Lieutenant over the Executive Protection Unit.  He is taking over the position previously filled by Mark Proctor, who last month was promoted to Major over Protective Services and Special Programs Bureau.

“Tommy has served in executive protection services for the past seventeen years, as a trooper and supervisor.  The knowledge and skill set that he has for Dignitary Protection is tremendous.  I have complete confidence in his ability to ensure the highest level of executive protection services,” Colonel Trott.

The THP’s Protective Services Division provides Executive security for the Governor, first family, Executive Residence, other dignitaries and the entire capitol complex. The Protective Services Division is also responsible for the creation and implementation of executive security plans.     

Fyke, a Clarksville, Tenn., native began his career with the agency in 1997.  He was first assigned as a road trooper to Shelby County in the THP Memphis District.  He was assigned to Protection Services in 1998 where he has remained throughout his career.  He was promoted to Sergeant in 2002. In 2008, Fyke was promoted to Lieutenant over the Protection Services Division.    

Fyke previously served as a deputy in the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. He is a 2012 graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command and has completed several specialized training courses. Fyke was instrumental in organizing the first Tennessee Highway Patrol Executive Protection School held in December 2011.
