TENNESSEE--- Back by popular demand, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) announces its Youth & Junior Trooper Academy for pre-teens and teens.

The THP summer program will offer two sessions beginning July 11-15, 2016 for Middle School grades 6-8. The second session will be July 18-22, 2016, for High School grades 9-12. The program is designed to educate youth who may have an interest in pursuing a career in law enforcement. Cadets will be provided educational and recreational experiences that involve respect, discipline, integrity, team building, physical fitness and training, plus much more. In addition, cadets will be involved in a community service project in support of the Second Harvest Food Bank and The Nashville Rescue Mission. This will be encompassing a canned food drive wherein the donations collected will directly support the food banks in the cadet’s communities across the state. Colonel Tracy Trott stated that “THP’s eight districts across the state are proud to be partnering with these young cadets in support of this very beneficial cause. As noted, this project will be statewide and there will be canned food drop-off locations at all eight THP district Headquarters”.

This program is being held at the THP Training Academy in Donelson, Tennessee. The second week will be in-residence wherein cadets will remain overnight Monday thru Friday, with graduation that afternoon. The application process will begin April 1, 2016 and the cutoff will be May 15, 2016 by 4:30 pm. Acceptance letters will be mailed by May 31, 2016.

We all give of our time and we provide valuable services to our communities statewide. Let’s help these young cadets be part of a giving experience that truly exemplifies the dedication to others found in the hearts of the THP.
