Tennessee Highway Patrol Makes Traffic Stop on I-40 and Locates 46 Pounds of Marijuana in Fayette County

MEMPHIS – August 19, 2016, at approximately 10:46 am, Trooper William Gregory of the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Interdiction Plus (IP) stopped a 2016 Malibu for a minor traffic violation on Interstate 40 in Fayette County.  As Trooper Gregory made contact with the driver, Lamont Moorhead 22 of Madison, TN.  He began to conduct a roadside interview.

Trooper Sherman Lingo, also of the THP Interdiction Plus Unit, arrived on the stop with his K-9 partner Rico. Trooper Lingo then conducted a walk around of the vehicle with his K-9. The dog immediately alerted on the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, 3 large bales of marijuana were recovered from the trunk compartment.  The approximate weight was 44 pounds.  Additionally, a loaded Glock model 22, 40 Caliber semi-automatic handgun was recovered under the driver seat.

The driver was arrested without incident and transported to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Please contact the Faye County Sheriff’s Office for a booking photo. Moorhead was charged with felony possession of schedule 6 drugs with intent to resale and possession of a dangerous weapon while committing a felony.
