Tennessee Highway Patrol Names Captain Over Criminal Investigation Division
Lieutenant Roy Brown Promoted
NASHVILLE – The Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner David W. Purkey and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Colonel Tracy Trott announced the promotion of Lieutenant Roy Brown to Captain of the THP’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) today.
Brown joined the Tennessee Highway Patrol in 2000 and was assigned to Shelby County in the Memphis District as a road trooper. During his 17-year career, he received extensive training in criminal interdiction, crash investigation, DUI enforcement, terrorism and intelligence analysis. In 2008, Brown was promoted to Sergeant responsible for road enforcement supervision in Fayette County. He transferred to Nashville in 2011 to serve as a homeland security liaison. In 2012, he transferred to the Special Investigations Bureau and was tasked with assisting in the creation of the Identity Crimes Unit. He worked as a Sergeant in the newly created unit until his promotion to Lieutenant in 2013.
“The promotion of Roy Brown to Captain in the Criminal Investigation Division provides our agency with a tremendous opportunity to build upon our past success as we prepare and look forward to the future,” Colonel Tracy Trott said. “His experience no doubt helps to make us a more professional organization.”
In addition to his law enforcement experience, Brown served 24 years in the military, and is an honor graduate of the Air Force Operations Intelligence Analyst Course at Goodfellow Air Force Base, United States Army’s Military Intelligence Advanced Leader’s Course as well as a distinguished graduate of the United States Army Military Intelligence Senior Leaders Course. He has served in various positions including non-commissioned officer in charge of a squadron intelligence section during combat operations in Iraq. He was also a squadron operational security officer and squadron anti-terrorism and force protection officer.
Brown received his Bachelor of Science degree from Liberty University. He is a graduate of the Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, and the FBI National Academy Session, 261.
