Tennessee Highway Patrol Promotes Matt Perry to Major
Will Serve as Major over THP’s Administrative Support Bureau
NASHVILLE – Commissioner David W. Purkey of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security along with Colonel Tracy Trott of the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) announced the promotion of Matt Perry to major over the Administrative Support Bureau. This position will become vacant on August 16, 2017, after Major Danny Talley retires from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
“Matt is a rising star in our department,” said Colonel Tracy Trott. “He has proven himself as a leader countless times over the years. He has worked hard for this position, and I’m happy to promote him.”
“Matt’s promotion continues to lay a solid foundation for the Tennessee Highway Patrol not only for the present, but for years to come,” said Commissioner David W. Purkey. “I am happy for Matt and know he will continue to move our department in the right direction.”
Matt started his career with the Tennessee Highway Patrol in 2004 and was assigned as a road trooper in Williamson County. In 2007, he joined the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) as a crash reconstructionist. In 2010, Matt was promoted to sergeant over Davidson and Cheatham Counties supervising 11 troopers. He supervised the top DUI producing trooper in the state in 2012 and 2013. That period resulted in nearly 350 DUI arrests. In 2012, Matt was named Nashville District Supervisor of the Year. In 2013, he was promoted to lieutenant and commander of the Interdiction Plus Team, named liaison to the Tennessee Fusion Center and coordinator of the License Plate Reader Program. In 2015, he was promoted to the rank of captain over the Nashville District supervising nearly 100 people spanning 12 counties.
Prior to joining the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Matt worked several years with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. He is also a graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
