State Board of Education to Hold Second Quarterly Meeting and Workshop of 2018

The Tennessee State Board of Education will hold its second quarterly meeting of 2018 at theTennessee Higher Education Commission on Thursday, April 19 and Friday, April 20, 2018. The newest member of the State Board of Education, Mr. Bob Eby of the third Congressional District, will join other members of the Board of the first time. Ms. Allison Chancey, the former board member from District 3, retired from the State Board of Education in January.

WHERE: Tennessee Higher Education Commission, 18th Floor BoardroomWHEN: April 19 from 1:00 p.m. -  4:30 p.m., April 20 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

The State Board of Education will hear from the State Board staff and the Tennessee Department of Education at the Thursday workshop on education policy topics including Response to Instruction and Intervention and Commissioner Candice McQueen’s updates on the Department of Education’s Strategic Plan. Agenda items and links to live stream the Thursday workshop are posted on the State Board of Education website. The workshop will be held at the Tennessee Higher Education Commission from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST. Prior to Thursday’s workshop, members of the State Board of Education will visit David A. Youree Elementary School in Rutherford County. In addition, the Board will hold a working lunch with the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents from 11:30 a.m. at the William R. Snodgrass Tennessee Tower, which will also be live streamed on the State Board website.

The State Board of Education will hold the voting portion of the quarterly meeting on Friday, April 20, 2018. Board members will hear items on both first and final reading. Board members will hear on first reading a new Educator Preparation Program rule and Computer Science standards. Members of the public are invited to submit feedback on the new rule and standards on the State Board website. All agenda items are available on the State Board of Education website. The board meeting will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. CDT at the 18th Floor Boardroom at the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. The meeting will be livestreamed for those unable to attend.
