Newest Member to Join Board for Third Quarterly Meeting

The Tennessee State Board of Education will hold its third quarterly meeting of 2018 at the
Cordell Hull Building on Thursday, July 26 and Friday, July 27, 2018. The newest member of the State Board of Education, Mr. Nick Darnell of the First Congressional District, will join other members of the Board of the first time. Chairman Fielding Rolston, the former board member from District 1, retired from the State Board of Education in April.

WHAT: Tennessee State Board of Education quarterly meeting and workshop
WHERE: Cordell Hull Building, House Hearing Room I
WHEN: July 26 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., July 27 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Members of the State Board of Education will hear from the Board staff and the Tennessee
Department of Education at the Thursday workshop. Education policy topics will include the Board’s progress toward its annual Master Plan, English language arts standards clarifications, and the online course access program. On Friday, members will vote on policy changes to address 2017-18 legislation regarding testing challenges and revisions to the Professional Assessments Policy related to edTPA implementation.

Agenda items and links to live stream the Thursday workshop and Friday meeting are posted on the State Board of Education website. Immediately following Thursday’s workshop, members of the Board will hold a joint meeting with the Tennessee Higher Education Commission at 1 p.m. in House Hearing Room I, which will also be live streamed on the State Board website.
