Street Lighting Disconnected Along U.S. 27 Construction Project in Chattanooga, Hamilton County

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – To continue work on the current phase of the U.S. 27 reconstruction project, TDOT contract crews must disconnect the street lighting in the area.  Earlier this week, crews disconnected the street lighting and removed the poles on U.S. 27 North within the 1.6 mile project area from the I‑24 interchange to south of the Olgiati Bridge.  The street lighting on U.S. 27 South will be disconnected and the poles removed in the next several days.

Once this is done, U.S. 27 in the project area will remain without street lighting until new lights are installed and activated during the latter stages of the project, which is scheduled for completion in July 2019.

Motorists are advised to use caution as they travel through the construction area, particularly during nighttime hours.

From your desktop or mobile device, get the latest construction activity and live streaming SmartWay traffic cameras at www.TNSmartWay.com/Traffic.  Travelers can also dial 511 from any land-line or cellular phone for travel information, or follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/TN511 for statewide travel or Chattanooga area alerts @Chattanooga511 or any of TDOT’s other Twitter pages.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination.  Drivers should never tweet, text or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.
