TDOT to Replace Deck Panels on I-24 East Bridge over Chestnut Street in Chattanooga

Chattanooga, Tenn. – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will close a lane of travel on Interstate 24 East near the U.S. 27 interchange in Hamilton County for bridge construction. The work is scheduled as follows.

• Thursday, March 10 at 9:00 p.m. EST to Friday morning, March 11 at 5:00 a.m. EST - The shoulder of I-24 East at mile marker 178.4 will be closed for barrier rail installation.
• Friday, March 11 at 9:00 p.m. EST through Monday, March 14 at 5:00 a.m. EDT - The outside (right) lane and shoulder of I-24 East at mile marker 178.4 will be closed for bridge construction.

The lane and shoulder closures will allow crews to replace broken deck panels on the bridge located on I-24 East over Chestnut Street near the U.S. 27 interchange.

This operation could cause travel delays for traffic on I-24 East. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and utilize alternate routes if desired. Message boards are in place to alert motorists to the lane closures. The Tennessee Highway Patrol will also be on-site to assist with traffic.

The scheduled closures are weather dependent.  Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent work from occurring as scheduled, the time will be adjusted or the work will be rescheduled.
