NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will close multiple lanes of Interstate 65 North, between State Route 155 (Briley Parkway) and State Route 45 (Old Hickory Boulevard), north of Nashville, this weekend for blasting operations. The closures will begin Saturday night and continue throughout the day. The work is scheduled as follows.

  • Saturday, March 19, 12:00 a.m. (midnight) to 12:00 p.m. (noon) - I-65 northbound will be reduced to two lanes, from just north of the Briley Pkwy interchange (MM 91) to Old Hickory Blvd (MM 92).
  • Saturday, March 19, 7:00 a.m. - Traffic on I-65 in both directions, from Old Hickory Blvd to Briley Pkwy, will be temporarily stopped during blasting.
  • Saturday, March 19, 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 5:00 p.m. - I-65 northbound will continue to have 1-2 lanes closed until crews complete clearing material and equipment from the roadway.

This operation is expected to cause travel delays for northbound traffic. Overhead Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) will be updated with real-time lane closure information to alert motorists to lane closure activity throughout the operation. Current DMS messages can be viewed online at www.TNSmartWay.com/Traffic. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and utilize alternate routes if desired.

The scheduled closures are weather dependent.  Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent work from occurring as scheduled, the time will be adjusted or the work will be rescheduled.

The blasting operations are part of a slope stabilization project, which will provide a better clear zone for motorists and correct ongoing maintenance concerns with the existing slope. The $1.5 million project is expected to be finished at the end of May 2016.
