NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will close multiple lanes of Interstate 65 North this weekend, between State Route 155 (Briley Parkway) and State Route 45 (Old Hickory Boulevard), north of downtown Nashville, for blasting operations. Work will begin late Friday night and continue through Sunday morning. The work is scheduled as follows.

  • Friday, April 1, 12:00 a.m. (midnight) through Saturday, April 2, 12:00 p.m. (noon) - I-65 northbound will be reduced to two lanes from just north of the Briley Parkway interchange (MM 91) to Old Hickory Boulevard (MM 92).
  • Saturday, April 2, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - The ramps to I-65 North from Briley Parkway West and Ellington Parkway North will be closed. As an alternate, drivers can take Gallatin Pike (US 31E) to Old Hickory Boulevard West or Dickerson Pike (US 41) to Old Hickory Boulevard East to connect with I-65 North.
  • Saturday, April 2, 7:00 a.m. - Traffic on I-65 in both directions, from Old Hickory Boulevard to Briley Parkway, will be temporarily stopped during blasting.
  • Saturday, April 2, 12:00 p.m. (noon) through Sunday, April 3, 7:00 a.m. - One to two lanes of I-65 North will remain closed until the roadway and shoulder cleanup is completed.

TDOT Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) will be updated with real-time lane closure and detour information throughout the operation. Current DMS messages can be viewed online at www.TNSmartWay.com/Traffic.

The blasting operations are part of a slope stabilization project on I-65 northbound between Old Hickory Boulevard and Briley Parkway. The purpose of the project is to provide a better clear zone for motorists and correct ongoing maintenance concerns with the existing slope.

The $1.5 million project is expected to be finished at the end of May 2016.
