TDOT Commissioner Celebrates Completion of I-65 and SR 248 Widening in Williamson County

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer joined state and local officials today to celebrate the completion of a major widening project on Interstate 65 from State Route 248 (Peytonsville Road/Goose Creek Bypass) to State Route 840.

Wednesday’s event marked the completion of the $50 million project, which included widening I-65 from two to four travel lanes in each direction from SR 248 to SR 840, widening on SR 248 from two to four lanes from Lewisburg Pike to I-65, and a new 10-lane bridge over I-65 on SR 248 to replace the original two-lane bridge.

The project finished on the original contract completion date of June 15, even after the contractor lost months of work following a tanker truck crash at the site of the new bridge in August 2014.

Nearly 10 months after construction began on the project, a tanker truck crashed into the new Peytonsville Road bridge, which was under construction. The crash impact and subsequent fire destroyed the partially built new bridge and the old bridge. Both structures had to be taken down.

“We basically had to start over,” said TDOT Commissioner Schroer. “We are here today, celebrating this project completion because of a tremendous effort on the part of the contractor and the TDOT project staff to get this project back on schedule.”

Rep. Glen Casada (R - Franklin) represents Williamson County in the Tennessee General Assembly and was on hand for the celebration. Local leaders, Williamson County Mayor Rogers Anderson and Franklin Mayor Ken Moore, were also in attendance.
