JACKSON, Tenn. – Deputy Governor Jim Henry and TDOT Commissioner John Schroer joined state and local officials in Paris today to break ground on a project to widen SR 54 (US 641).

The $26 million, 2.7-mile project includes SR 54 (US 641) from two lanes to five lanes from near Rison Street to Smith Road. This project also includes a curb and gutter section throughout most of the nearly three miles. The project is scheduled to be completed in November 2020.

“Providing more capacity along this corridor will improve safety and mobility in the immediate area,” Deputy Governor Henry said. “It will also help the connectivity between Tennessee and Kentucky, which benefits the entire region.”

The IMPROVE Act will fund the 10.9 miles from Smith Road to the Kentucky State Line. This project, and others for Henry County, can be found here: https://www.tdot.tn.gov/projectneeds/spot#/

“With the additional funds from the IMPROVE Act, we were able to move forward with these improvements,” Commissioner Schroer added. “This is just the first in a series of improvement projects along this corridor.”

In 2016, the Tennessee Department of Transportation lost three workers in the line of duty. All three were struck by passing motorists. Those tragedies bring the total number of TDOT lives lost to 112. We don’t want to lose another member of our TDOT family. We’re asking you to WORK WITH US.
