TDOT Announces MemFix 4 Project
Project Will Include Total Interstate ClosuresMEMPHIS, Tenn. – TDOT Commissioner John Schroer joined state and local officials in Memphis today to launch MemFix 4, an Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) project to replace four bridges along the I-240 corridor.
The $54.1 million project includes four bridges crossing over I-240 on East Poplar, West Poplar, Park Avenue and Norfolk Southern Railroad bridges. The four bridges were built in 1968 as part of the interstate system through Memphis. The project is scheduled to be completed in June 2019.
“We are using an innovative process to accelerate the much needed replacement of these bridges while minimizing the inconvenience to motorists,” Commissioner Schroer said. “It will allow these bridges to be completed in 9 to12 weekends instead of 2 to 3 years.”
The project will include total weekend closures of this portion of I-240. The closures, which will be weather dependent, will not take place until the summer of 2018. However, to prepare the bridges for the necessary work, one lane of I-240 in both directions will be closed beginning in early January. The lane reduction will remain in place until the bridge work is completed.
No interstate closures will be scheduled during major holidays or events.
