CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. –On Sunday, September 23, 2018, Tennessee Department of Transportation Maintenance crews will provide traffic control to allow for recovery of a tractor trailer that went over an embankment approximately three weeks ago on Interstate 24 West at mile marker 130.5 in Grundy County .

Beginning at 6:00 a.m. CDT at Exit 152 (Kimball) in Marion County, TDOT crews will pace traffic with the use of a rolling roadblock to allow the wrecker company adequate time to recover the tractor trailer from the embankment at mile marker 130.5 in Grundy County.  The average speed of the rolling roadblock will be less than 10 mph, so traffic congestion is expected.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will also assist with traffic control. Additionally, TDOT queue trucks, overhead Dynamic Message Signs, and portable message boards will be used during this recovery work, which is expected to take approximately two to three hours.  If the recovery of the tractor trailer is not completed when the paced traffic arrives at Exit 135 (Monteagle/Tracy City) at approximately 8:15 a.m. CDT, traffic may be reduced to one lane and the work will continue with one lane open.  If it is determined that the interstate requires a short-term total closure to allow the recovery work to be completed, traffic will be detoured off the interstate at Exit 135 and back onto the interstate at Exit 127.  Marion, Grundy, and Franklin Counties' emergency and law enforcement personnel have been notified of this event.

This work is weather permitting.  If weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent this work from being done, it will be rescheduled to take place at a later date.
