Weekly Roadway Activity Report for TDOT Region 2 (May 02 - 08, 2019)

CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 Resurfacing from near the parking area (MM 306.34) to east of Exit 311 (MM 311.12): Construction signs have been installed. Cold planing (milling) will be completed this week and the contractor is scheduled to begin paving the week of 05/05/19. Lane closures will be required with state trooper assistance. Working hours will be from 7 PM to 6 AM. During working hours, the speed limit will be reduced from 70 mph to 60 mph using digital speed limit sign assemblies. Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-101 (Peavine Road) Grading, drainage, and paving from Firetower Road to Westchester/Catoosa Boulevard: As grade work progresses, motorists should be alert for shifts in traffic patterns to allow for construction activities. The posted speed limit has been reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph within the work zone. Temporary lane closures and traffic stoppages may be needed to support ongoing work. Lane and/or road closures will be needed within Fairfield Glade to allow installation of storm drain and relocation of utilities. If needed, alternate routes will be coordinated with the Glade and properly identified. Motorists should reduce speeds on Peavine Road and be alert for construction personnel/equipment entering and exiting the roadway. Estimated project completion date is November 2020.

FENTRESS COUNTY Rotten Fork Road over Rotten Fork of the Wolf River Bridge Replacement: The contractor will be on site installing erosion measures and maintaining existing erosion measures that are currently in place. The existing roadway will remain open during the course of construction, but motorists are encouraged to use caution around construction site due to close proximity of construction equipment. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

FENTRESS COUNTY SR-52, SR-154 and SR-297 Resurfacing (microsurfacing): The contractor has re-scheduled their work to begin 05/18/19. No work is currently ongoing on this contract. The routes covered in the project are SR-52 from east of US-127 (SR-28) (LM 13.60) to SR-296 (LM 17.62), SR-154 from north of Louvaine Road (LM 6.25) to the Pickett County line (LM 13.48), and SR-297 from SR-154 (LM 0.00) to the Scott County line (LM 8.79). Estimated project completion date is June 2019.

FENTRESS COUNTY Vines Ridge Road over Big Laurel Creek Bridge Replacement: Vines Ridge Road remains closed at LM 1.06 and will remain closed until the new bridge is constructed and in place. Approximate date for the length of closure is 07/31/19. Motorists should seek alternate route around Vines Ridge Road near location of construction. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.

FENTRESS AND OVERTON COUNTY SR-85 Emergency slide repairs at various locations: The roadway is closed from LM 18.4 to LM 22.4 in Overton county. SR-85 is also closed in Fentress County between LM 5.75 and 8.00. The contractor is continuing work on this contract in the two areas listed where the roadway is closed. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and seek alternate routes. Estimated project completion date is January 2020.

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 near MM 296 Bridge repair on Rocky Point Road over I-40: Rocky Point Road bridge at LM 10.08 over I-40 will be closed due to bridge repairs and re-open in June 2019. A detour is in place to guide motorists around the bridge closure. Contractor will be performing lane closures on I-40 from MM 295 to MM 298 during this period. Lane closures will be performed between the hours of 8 PM and 6 AM in the eastbound and westbound direction. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

PUTNAM COUNTY SR-111 (LM 4.08) at I-40 (MM288) the Installation of signals on east and westbound ramps in Cookeville, including grading, drainage and paving: The contractor will be constructing foundations for the traffic signal poles along SR-111 North and South and along each of the I-40 ramps. This will result in temporary shoulder closures each day. The contractor has begun widening the I-40 westbound off-ramp, resulting in a right shoulder closure with barrier rail. Right turns from the westbound off-ramp onto SR-111 North are not allowed while this area is being excavated. This closure will be in place until 06/01/19. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route during this time. If they must travel through this area, they will experience long delays, as the left turn movement will be the only one allowed. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is June 2019.

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-136 (N. WASHINGTON AVE.) in both directions from LM 4.3 to LM 5.4: Utility work between 4th & 6th. St. Signage, barrels, and cones will be present during this work. Motorists should use caution and be aware of flaggers. Work should continue through 06/18/2019 between 9 AM and 3 PM.

BLEDSOE COUNTY SR-101 Bridge repair over Bee Creek (LM 8.98): Work on this project is underway. For the safety of the traveling public, the bridge will be reduced to one 10 foot lane and controlled with temporary signals. RESTRICTIONS: 10 foot lane Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

CANNON COUNTY TDOT Maintenance on SR-64 (BRADYVILLE RD.) in both directions at LM 6.0: Region 2 Bridge Repair will be repairing a culvert head wall on a SR-64 at LM 6.0 starting on Monday, 05/06/19 through Tuesday, 05/07/19 from 9 AM to 3 PM.
COFFEE COUNTY I-24 Resurfacing from Bedford County (MM 96) to Noah Fork Creek (MM 101) including bridge deck repair: The contractor will continue the milling and paving process of the roadway surface work each Sunday thru Thursday during the hours of 7 PM to 6 AM each night. There will be lane closures during all work process. Motorists should use extreme caution. Law enforcement and safety personnel will be present. Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

COFFEE COUNTY Utility Work on SR-2 (HILLSBORO HWY.) in both directions from LM 14.88 to LM 15.42: Sewer rehabilitation work will take place. Flaggers, signage, cones and barrels will be used as needed. Motorists should reduce speed and be cautious of new traffic pattern and personnel. Work will be from 04/25/19 to 05/07/19 between 8 AM and 6 PM.
MARION COUNTY TDOT Maintenance on SR-2 (US-HWY. 41) in both directions from LM 25.6: Slide repair work has route reduced to one lane with traffic signals controlling alternating directions.

MARION COUNTY Utility Work on SR-27 (US-HWY. 72) in both directions from LM 4.67 to LM 7.52: Mobile lane closure for electrical work along Hwy 27 between Hwy 41 & East Valley Rd. Motorists should use caution and be aware of flaggers. This work will be from 04/23/19 to 07/01/19 between 6 AM and 4 PM.
MARION COUNTY SR-156 over Running Water Creek (LM 25.58) Bridge rehabilitation: SR-156 is reduced to one 10 foot lane across Running Water Creek Bridge and controlled with a temporary traffic signal while the bridge is repaired. Please use caution when traveling through this area. RESTRICTIONS: 10 foot lane Estimated project completion date is October 2019.

WARREN COUNTY SR-288 Construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Collins River (LM 4.97), including grading, drainage and paving: The bridge is currently reduced to one 10.5-foot lane to allow the contractor to construct the new bridge. While the bridge is down to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. RESTRICTIONS: 10.5-foot max width Estimated project completion date is September 2019.

WARREN COUNTY SR-8 over Collins River (LM 8.14) Bridge Repair: The bridge is currently reduced to one 11-ft. lane to allow the contractor to repair the existing bridge. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. RESTRICTIONS: 11-ft max width. Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

BRADLEY COUNTY US-64BP (US-74, SR-311) Resurfacing from east of Goldstar Drive (LM 3.08) to east of McGrady Drive (LM 5.00), including bridge deck repair: There will be nightly lane closures from 8 PM to 6 AM Monday thru Saturday night as the contractor starts milling and paving the roadway. The contractor will have one lane closed on SR-311 as they work on the main roadway. Estimated project completion date is May 2019.

BRADLEY AND MCMINN COUNTY SR-306 Miscellaneous safety improvements from SR-60 (LM 0) to the Meigs County line (LM 8.58), and on SR-307 from Burnett Road (LM 2.18) to Old Mount Harmony Road (LM 6.07): The contractor will be working on SR-306 and will be having intermittent lanes closures as they work. BRADLEY AND MCMINN COUNTY SR-312 (Bradley Co.) Miscellaneous safety improvements from the Hamilton Co. Line (LM 0.00) to Quill Dr. (LM 5.27); US-11 (SR-2) (McMinn Co.) miscellaneous safety improvements from Sanford Rd. (LM 4.05) to Chapel Rd. (LM 12.32): Work on this project is underway. The contractor will work in Bradley County on SR-312 during this report period. There will be intermittent lane closures. Flaggers will assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is June 2019.

HAMILTON COUNTY I-75 at I-24 Interchange Reconstruction: Crews will continue surveying and spotting utilities at various locations throughout the interchange. Shoulders may be closed at these locations between 9 AM and 3 PM. Additionally, the following lane closures will occur during this period: 05/02/19 between 9 PM and 6 AM and 05/05/19 to 05/08/19 between 9 PM and 6 AM - Single left lane closure on I-75 NB to I-24 WB. Single left lane closure on I-24 EB to I-75 NB. Single left lane closure on I-75 SB to I-24 WB.

HAMILTON COUNTY US-27 (I-124) Widening from I-24/US-27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge: Work on this project continues with activities occurring on the west side of southbound US-27. Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and exiting the area along the access ramps for east and westbound M. L. King Boulevard. The speed limit for the access ramp is 35 MPH. The 12th Street tie-in ramp to US-27 South has been temporarily closed. This closure will be in place until further notice. Additionally, the southbound ramp from W. Main St. to southbound US-27 has been temporarily closed and will remain so until further notice. Detours are posted. Motorists should pay close attention to the detour signage posted. The speed limit on US-27 in the construction zone remains 45 MPH. Weather permitting; the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7PM and 6AM. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on US-27. Thursday Night (05/02/19) – 7PM to 6AM the Southbound US-27 on ramps from Martin Luther King Blvd will be temporarily closed for setting beams over 12th Street. Westbound MLK traffic will be detoured to Gateway Ave / 6th Street / Chestnut / 4th Street to the southbound US-27 on ramp. Eastbound Martin Luther King Blvd traffic will be detoured to Broad Street / 4th Street to the Southbound US-27 on ramp. 12th Street will be temporarily closed. Traffic will be detoured from 12th Street / Grove Street / Riverfront Parkway / Main Street / Carter Street. Thursday Night (05/02/19) from 7PM to 6AM Temporary right lane closure will be in place for northbound US-27 from I-24 to 4th Street for reworking the right edge line and removing the acceleration lane for the westbound Martin Luther King on ramp to northbound US-27. The westbound Martin Luther King on ramp to northbound US-27 will also be closed. Traffic will be detoured to Gateway / 6th Street / Chestnut Street / 4th Street to the northbound US-27 on ramp. HAMILTON COUNTY TDOT Maintenance on SR-319 (DUPONT PKWY.) both directions from LM 2.0 to LM 2.5: Traffic will be shifted to 1 lane both directions for bridge inspection on 05/02/19 from 9 AM to 3 PM.
HAMILTON COUNTY TDOT Maintenance on SR-8 (CHEROKEE BLVD.) in both directions at LM 11.2: Tunnel Inspections by Volkert will be conducted from 8 PM on 05/06/19 to 6 AM on 05/07/19 requiring a complete tunnel closure with detours in place utilizing SR-29. Traffic control will be performed by Superior Traffic Control.
HAMILTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-8 (RINGGOLD RD.) eastbound at LM 3.17: Signage with arrow boards closing 2 EB lanes for utility work. Motorists should reduce speed, be aware of new traffic pattern, and workers. Work will be going on from 05/02/19 and 05/08/19 between 8 PM and 4:30 AM.
HAMILTON COUNTY SR-111 Repair of bridge over US-27: During this report period, the contractor will have one lane closed in each direction of SR-111 while performing bridge repairs. The contractor will also be closing one lane in each direction on SR-29 as it passes under SR-111. One lane in each direction shall remain open at all times. Estimated project completion date is October 2019.

No southbound traffic restrictions will be allowed between 5 AM and 9 AM. No northbound traffic restrictions will be allowed between 3 PM and 6 PM. MCMINN COUNTY SR-30, Grading, drainage and paving on SR-30 from Jackson Street to east of Knight Road in Athens: All traffic has been shifted into its phase two configuration. This will involve traffic using the newly built east bound portion of SR-30. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction with turning lanes provided at critical intersections and business accesses. Estimated project completion date is April 2020.

POLK COUNTY SR-40 (US-64) Repair of bridges over North Potato Creek (LM 26.93): SR-40 (US-64) will be down to one lane on the project in both directions as the contractor starts work on the project. RESTRICTIONS: Due to closing of one lane on the project in both directions on US64, no loads wider than 12 ft. At LM 26.93 East and West are allowed. Estimated project completion date is April 2020.

RHEA COUNTY TDOT Maintenance on SR-302 (OLD STAGE RD.) northbound from LM 1.8 to LM 2.0: Reshaping ditches; traffic reduced to 1 lane flagging operation on 05/06/19 and 05/07/19 from 8 AM to 5 PM.
RHEA COUNTY TDOT Maintenance on SR-68 (WASSOM MEMORIAL HIGHWAY) in both directions at LM 5.5: The roadway is reduced to one lane and signalized 24/7 due to roadway settlement.

RHEA COUNTY SR-30 Miscellaneous safety improvements from near SR-443 (LM 4.1) to Maple Creek Drive (LM 7.75): There will be shoulder closures and possible temporary lane closures to support the installation of signs, guardrail, etc. between Monday and Friday, 6 AM to 8 PM. Estimated project completion date is July 2019.

REGION 2 TDOT Maintenance drainage work: There will be possible short-term lane and shoulder closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to clean rock and debris from ditches on an as-needed basis. One lane will be maintained at all times.

REGION 2 TDOT Maintenance pothole repair and pavement patching: There will be possible short-term emergency lane closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to repair potholes and patch pavement on an as-needed basis. Depending on location and severity these repairs may be done during the day or at night. In addition to performing the work, regional Operations crews will also provide traffic control.

REGION 2 On-call guardrail repair and new guardrail installation on various interstate and state routes: The contractor may have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform guardrail repair. These closures will take place on the interstate nightly from 7 PM to 6 AM Sundays through Thursdays and daily on state routes. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times on the interstate, and flaggers will be present on state routes during any work that is performed. Estimated project completion date is June 2019.

The sweeping activity will happen Sunday through Thursday (8 PM to 6 AM). Drain cleaning along I-75 NB (MM 9.0 to 18.0) & I-75 SB (MM 18.0-9.0) will continue Sunday through Thursday (8 PM to 6 AM). The drain cleaning activity will involve inside lane closures and some outside shoulder closures. Estimated project completion date is February 2020.

REGION 2 On-call pavement marking and the retracing of pavement markings with spray thermoplastic on various Interstate and State Routes: The contractor will be retracing existing pavement markings in Cannon, Coffee, Franklin, and McMinn Counties. This will include mobile lane closures on SR-1 and SR-53 in Cannon County, on SR-64 in Coffee County, on SR-15 in Franklin County, and on SR-30 and SR-39 in McMinn County. In 2016, the Tennessee Department of Transportation lost three workers in the line of duty. All three were struck by passing motorists.
