Roadway Activity Report for TDOT Region 2 (Feb. 27 - Mar. 4, 2020)

DISTRICT 27

CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 Construction of a truck climbing lane EB near MM 339, including grading, drainage, and paving: Construction signs, guardrail (westbound), and portable barrier rail (eastbound) have been installed on I-40. The contractor continues grade work and drainage activities in the median behind portable barrier rail. Motorists are encouraged to slow down, use caution, and be aware of construction personnel in the work zone and equipment that will be entering/exiting the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is September 2020.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 Resurfacing from the SR-101 ramp (LM 18) to east of SR-1 (US-70) (LM 24.6): Bridge repairs are in progress on the I-40 westbound and eastbound bridges between Crossville and Crab Orchard at MM 327, requiring the right lanes to be closed on each bridge. The bridges will be reduced to one lane 24 hours a day and 7 days a week with the use of portable barrier rail. The contractor will implement portable queue warning systems to assist with traffic flow. Motorists should expect delays while traveling through the work zone and may want to consider SR 1 (US 70) between Crossville (mm 322) and Crab Orchard (mm 329) as an alternate route. The bridge repair portion of this project is expected to be completed by June 2020. Estimated project completion date is October 2020.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY TDOT Bridge Inspection on SR-28 (US-127 S.) in both directions at LM 10.69: Bridge Inspection will be performing its 2-year inspection on US-127 S. over Byrds Creek at LM 10.69 on 03/02/20 from 9 AM until 3 PM. Traffic control will be in place.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY TDOT Bridge Inspection on SR-28 (US-127 S.) in both directions at LM 11.08: Bridge Inspection will be performing its 2-year inspection on US-127 S. over Three Mile Creek at LM 11.08 on 03/03/20 from 9 AM until 3 PM. Traffic control will be in place.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY TDOT Bridge Inspection on SR-68 in both directions at LM 12.53: Bridge Inspection will be performing its 2-year inspection on SR-68 over Whites Creek at LM 12.53 on 03/04/20 from 9 AM until 3 PM. Traffic control will be in place.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Emergency slope stabilization near LM 26.6: Construction signs, portable barrier rail, and temporary traffic signals have been installed. SR-1 (US-70) will be reduced to one lane between Godsey Road and Renegade Mountain Parkway while slope stabilization is in process. Motorists should exercise caution and pay attention to temporary traffic signals as they travel through the work zone.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-101 (Peavine Road) Grading, drainage, and paving from Firetower Road to Westchester/Catoosa Boulevard: Motorists should use caution while driving along Peavine Road and be alert for shifts in traffic patterns. The posted speed limit has been reduced from 45 MPH to 35 MPH within the work zone. Temporary lane closures and/or traffic stoppages may be needed as construction activities continue. Motorists should reduce speed on Peavine Road and be alert for construction personnel/equipment entering and exiting the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is November 2020.

DEKALB AND WARREN COUNTY SR-56 Construction of bridges and paving from south of Warren-DeKalb County (LM 24.5) line to East Bryant St (LM 2.9): The contractor will continue installing concrete box culverts and drainage structures. Grade work and utility work on the new roadway alignment are ongoing. No change in traffic patterns, traffic is still using the existing SR-56. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction equipment adjacent to roadway. Flaggers may be present to move equipment across roadway.  Estimated project completion date is May 2022.

FENTRESS AND OVERTON COUNTY SR-85 Emergency slide repairs at various locations: The contractor continues work on the Overton County side of SR-85 and the road remains closed at LM 17.5 to LM 22.2. This closure will remain in effect until the project completion date of 09/30/2020. The Fentress County portion of SR-85 remains open to through traffic. A detour route remains in place for Overton SR-85 and motorists are encouraged to continue using the detour route until the road is opened. Estimated project completion date is September 2020.

OVERTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-111 (COOKEVILLE HWY.) in both directions from LM 14 to LM 9.8: Signage and flaggers will be present for work along Cookeville Hwy/Bradford Hicks Dr/W Main St and on SR-294 along Bradford Hicks Dr/School Mountain Rd on LM 0.48-0.57. Motorists should use caution and be aware of personnel and equipment. 9 AM to 3 PM, from 01/02/20 through 03/31/20.

OVERTON COUNTY SR-294 Bridge repair over Big Eagle Creek (LM 1.39): The lane closure at LM 1.39 remains in effect and the contractor continues work on Phase 1 of the bridge deck. The lane closure will remain until project completion scheduled for 06/15/20. During the closure, a temporary signal system will remain in place to allow traffic through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and move slowly through the work zone when the signal light allows. RESTRICTIONS: Loads wider than 10' should seek alternate route. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

OVERTON COUNTY S.I.A. Grading, drainage and paving on Oak Hill Road from Rickman Road to near SR-111: The contractor is scheduled to close and detour the road on 03/02/2020. The detour route will remain until the project is completed. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-135 (S. WILLOW AVE.) in both directions from LM 9.7 to LM 8.48: Mobile lane closures will occur as crews transition the work zone between I-40 to State Street. Signage, cones, and barrels will be present. Motorists should use caution. 9 AM - 3 PM, from 01/21/20 to 06/30/20.

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-136 (S. JEFFERSON AVE.) in both directions from LM 2.4 to LM 2.7: Trucks, signage and flaggers will be present for work along S. Jefferson Ave. Motorists should use caution and be aware of personnel and equipment. 9 AM to 3 PM, from 02/10/20 through 03/04/20.

WHITE COUNTY TDOT Bridge Maintenance on SR-111 (SPENCER HWY.) in both directions from LM 17.6 to LM 18.7: TDOT Bridge Repair will be performing maintenance on the SR-111 Bridge over Falling Water River at LM 17.26 to 18.7 on Monday, 03/02/20 from 9 AM until 3 PM. Traffic control will be in place.

WHITE COUNTY Grading, drainage and paving on Airport Rd. near the Upper Cumberland Regional Airport: Construction signs and portable barrier wall have been installed throughout the project. The contractor will be working on grading and drainage work behind the portable barrier rail during this period along Airport Rd. Temporary traffic stoppages may be needed as construction progresses. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through the work zone and be alert of all traffic signage, personnel, and equipment.  Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

DISTRICT 28

BLEDSOE COUNTY SR-28 Slope stabilization in Bledsoe County near LM 28.8: The contractor is working on SR-28 north from mile marker 28.7 to 28.9. The roadway will be reduced to one lane and controlled by a traffic signal. Large trucks heading South on SR-28 down the mountain are encouraged to use extreme caution. Estimated project completion date is April 2020.

COFFEE COUNTY TDOT Maintenance on I-24 in both directions from MM 117 to MM 110: A maintenance operation to patch potholes will occur on I-24 WB in the slow lane will take place on 03/01/20 beginning at 10:30 PM through 03/02/20 ending at 4:30 AM. Also, this maintenance operation will be on I-24 EB in the slow lane taking place between 03/02/20 and 03/03/20 beginning at 10:30 PM and ending at 4:30 AM. Traffic control will be in place with a lane closure. This work is weather permitting.

FRANKLIN COUNTY Utility Work on SR-127 (AEDC RD.) in both directions from LM 4.12 to LM 4.5: Intermittent lane closures will occur along AEDC Road between MM 4 and Paynes Church Rd as crews transition down the road. Signage and flaggers will be present. Motorists should use caution. 9 AM - 3 PM, from 01/13/20 through 03/31/20.

GRUNDY COUNTY Miscellaneous safety improvements on various local roads: Weather permitting progress work continues on this project Monday thru Friday. Motorists should use caution through the area, be aware of personnel and equipment. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

GRUNDY COUNTY SR-108 Repair of the bridge over Branch (LM 28.2): There is a temporary traffic signal installed reducing the roadway to one 10 ft. travel lane. The lane closure will remain until project completion scheduled for 05/31/21. During the closure, the temporary signal system will remain in place allowing traffic through the work zone. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through the work zone and be alert of all traffic signage, personnel, and equipment. RESTRICTIONS: Loads wider than 10' should seek alternate route. Estimated project completion date is May 2021.

MARION COUNTY Utility Work on SR-2 (US-HWY. 41) in both directions from LM 16.07 to LM 20.46: Mobile lane closures will occur as crews transition the work zone between Hwy 28 and Marion County Park. Signage and flaggers will be present. Motorists should use caution. 9 AM - 3 PM, from 01/09/20 to 03/31/20.

MARION COUNTY SR-2 (US-64, US-72, US-41) Emergency slope stabilization between LM 25.20 and LM 26.40: The contractor will continue to maintain one lane open to traffic with the restrictions of all wide loads. Traffic signals are installed and will remain in place until the project is complete. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and be alert to construction personnel and equipment. RESTRICTIONS: Restriction of all wide loads will remain in place until project is complete.

MARION COUNTY SR-27 Emergency slope stabilization near LM 26.6: The contractor is working on SR-27 from log mile 25.0 to 26.0. The roadway will be reduced to one lane controlled by a traffic signal. Large trucks heading South on SR-27 down the mountain are encouraged to use extreme caution. Estimated project completion date is July 2020.

VAN BUREN COUNTY SR-30 Slope stabilization in VanBuren County near LM 16.1: The contractor is working on SR-30 north from log mile 15.9 to 16.3. The roadway will be reduced to one lane controlled by a traffic signal. Large trucks heading West on SR-30 down the mountain are encouraged to use extreme caution. Estimated project completion date is April 2020.

WARREN COUNTY SR-288 Construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Collins River (LM 4.97), including grading, drainage and paving: Both lanes of the bridge are now open. Motorist should use caution in work zone and watch for workers. If necessary flaggers may be present to complete any remaining work.  Estimated project completion date is February 2020.

DISTRICT 29

BRADLEY COUNTY Utility Work on SR-312 (HARRISON PK.) westbound from LM 7.73 to LM 7.73: A single lane closure of the westbound lane between will occur from Nicholson Dr SW and Conner Rd. Signage and flaggers will be present. Motorists should use caution through the area, be aware of personnel and equipment. Work is largely complete, waiting on the weather to pave the repair area. 9AM to 3 PM from 02/03/20 through 03/31/20.

BRADLEY COUNTY SR-308 Installation of signals at the intersection of Walker Valley Road (LM 6.3): During this reporting period the contractor will have intermittent lane closures on SR-308 in either direction for the installation of signal poles and related wiring. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for work vehicles entering and leaving the highway in the work zone. Estimated project completion date is April 2020.

HAMILTON COUNTY I-75 at I-24 Interchange Reconstruction: Phase 1 traffic shifts have been implemented. Traffic should expect multiple lane shifts traveling through the interchange. Lane closures will occur Sunday nights through Thursdays nights between 9 PM and 6 AM at the following locations: I-75 NB at state line, I-75 NB MM 2, I-75 SB MM 3, I-24 EB MM 184, and I-24 WB MM 185. Traffic pacing will also occur for I-75 NB, I-75 SB, and I-24 EB. Additionally, there may intermittent shoulder closures at various locations for access to the median and roadside areas. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 MPH throughout the interchange.

HAMILTON COUNTY US-27 (I-124) Widening from I-24/US-27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge: On US-27 from I-24 to Manufacturers Road northbound and southbound lane closures will be in effect between 02/27/20 at 7 PM and 02/28/20 at 6 AM for litter pickup. Rolling lane closures will be in place on US-27 from I-24 to Manufacturers Road in the northbound and southbound lanes between 02/28/20 at 7 PM and 02/29/20 at 6 AM for street sweeping operations. Between 03/02/20 at 7 PM and 03/03/20 at 6 AM, and 03/03/20 at 7 PM to 03/04/20 at 6 AM, westbound Martin Luther King Blvd will be Temporarily Closed from Pine Street to Gateway Avenue for bridge operations. During this time, Westbound MLK Access to South US 27 will be blocked. Traffic will be detoured to Carter St to West 12th Street to US-27 Access Ramp. The Westbound MLK access to North US-27 will not be affected. Between 03/04/20 at 7 PM and 03/05/20 at 6 AM, eastbound Martin Luther King Blvd will be temporarily closed from Pine Street to Gateway Avenue for bridge operations. During this time, eastbound MLK Access to North US-27 will be blocked. Traffic will be detoured to Gateway Ave to West 6th Street to North Chestnut Street to West 4th Street to US-27 North on-ramp. The eastbound MLK access to South US-27 will not be affected. Exit 1B from southbound US-27 to eastbound MLK will be closed. Traffic will be detoured using southbound US-27 Exit 1C to West 4th Street to Broad St to eastbound MLK. State Troopers will be onsite during lane closures. Work on this project continues with activities occurring on the west side of southbound US-27. Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and leaving the area along the access ramps for east and westbound M. L. King Boulevard. The speed limit for the access ramp is 35 MPH. The southbound ramp from W. Main St. to southbound US-27 has been temporarily closed and will remain so until further notice. Detours are posted. Motorists should pay close attention to the detour signage posted. The speed limit on US-27 in the construction zone remains 45 MPH. Weather permitting; the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7 PM and 6 AM. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on US-27. RESTRICTIONS: I-124 (US-27) Northbound Exit 1C 4th St Off Ramp: No oversize/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27) Southbound Exit 1C 4th St Of Ramp: On oversize/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27) Southbound Exit 1B East Martin Luther King Blvd. Off Ramp: No oversized/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27) Southbound On Ramps from Martin Luther King Blvd: No oversized/over dimensional loads.

HAMILTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-317 (BONNY OAKS DR.) in both directions from LM 4.20 to LM 0.63: Mobile lane closures will occur on Bonny Oaks Drive. Signage, cones, and flaggers will be present. Motorists should use caution through the area and be aware of personnel and equipment. 9 AM to 3 PM from 02/27/20 through 03/04/20.

HAMILTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-319 (HIXSON PK.) eastbound from LM 9.89 to LM 9.89: A single lane closure of the eastbound lane will occur between Gold Point Lane and Hideaway Lane. Arrow board, signage and cones will be present. Motorists should use caution through the area, be aware of personnel and equipment. 9 AM to 2 PM from 02/03/20 through 03/04/20.

MCMINN COUNTY SR-30, Grading, drainage and paving on SR-30 from Jackson Street to east of Knight Road in Athens: The project continues in its phase 2 construction. All traffic is restricted to one lane in each direction with a turning lane provided at intersections and business entrances.

MEIGS COUNTY SR-58 Repair of bridge over Hiwassee River (LM 5.22): During this report period, the contractor will have the roadway reduced to one lane controlled by temporary traffic signals. Additional flaggers will be on site as needed.

POLK COUNTY SR-40 (US-64) Repair of bridges over North Potato Creek (LM 26.93): During this reporting period, the contractor will be working on repairs to the steel beams on the eastbound bridge and deck repairs on the westbound bridge. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on US-64 for the duration of this work. Motorists are advised to use caution and reduce speed in the work zone due to reduced lane widths. RESTRICTIONS: No loads wider than 12 Ft at LM 26.93 WB.

POLK COUNTY Boanerges Church Road construction of a bridge over Old Fort Creek: During this reporting period, the contractor will be mobilizing equipment to the project site to perform clearing activities. Boanerges Church Rd. is closed to all traffic and will remain closed for the duration of construction activities. Detour signs are posted directing traffic around the closure onto SR-313 and US-411. Estimated project completion date is October 2020.

RHEA COUNTY TDOT Slope Stabilization on SR-68 (WASSOM MEMORIAL HIGHWAY) in both directions at LM 5.5: The roadway is reduced to one lane and signalized 24/7 due to roadway settlement. The slope repair contractor has begun work on permanent repairs.

RHEA COUNTY SR-30 Grading, drainage and paving from west of New Union Road/White Oak Road (LM 12.6) to Sky Drive (LM 12.9): During this report period, the contractor will be performing grading & drainage operations along SR-30, New Union Rd & White Oak Dr. During this current phase, a new traffic pattern will be in place at SR-30; SR-30 will be shifting from the current alignment to the new alignment. The intersections of White Oak Drive and New Union Road will be shifted to the new portion of SR-30. Flaggers will be on-site to assist with heavy equipment entering and exiting existing roadways.

REGION 2 TDOT Maintenance drainage work: There will be possible short-term lane and shoulder closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to clean rock and debris from ditches on an as-needed basis. One lane will be maintained at all times.

REGION 2 TDOT Maintenance pothole repair and pavement patching: There will be possible short-term emergency lane closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to repair potholes and patch pavement on an as-needed basis. Depending on location and severity these repairs may be done during the day or at night. In addition to performing the work, regional Operations crews will also provide traffic control.

REGION 2 On-call guardrail repair and new guardrail installation on various Interstate and State Routes: The contractor may have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform guardrail repair. These closures will take place on the interstate nightly from 7 PM to 6 AM Sundays through Thursdays and daily on state routes. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times on the interstate, and flaggers will be present on state routes during any work that is performed.  Estimated project completion date is June 2020.

REGION 2 Preventative and unscheduled maintenance of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Transportation System: The contractor may have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform preventative or unscheduled maintenance to the local SmartWay Intelligent Transportation System. Work hours are 9 AM to 3:30 PM. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. Estimated project completion date is January 2023.

REGION 2 Sweeping and drain cleaning on various interstate and state routes: A region wide sweeping operation on selected state routes and interstates will continue supported by a mobile lane closure operation. Estimated project completion date is February 2020.

REGION 2 Crack sealing at various locations on various State Routes: The contractor will continue the crack sealing on various state routes in the following counties: Bledsoe, Franklin, Grundy, Hamilton, Polk, Sequatchie, Van Buren, and Warren. The contractor will be working 7 days per week from 6 AM to 7 PM. The work will be supported by a mobile lane closure operation as crews transition the work zones along state routes for sealant work. Signage and flaggers will be present. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and be alert to construction personnel and equipment. During this reporting period the plan of operation will be: Weather permitting, work will continue in Van Buren County on SR-111 from LM 0.0 to LM 12.5. Estimated project completion date is February 2020.

REGION 2 On-call concrete pavement repair at various locations on various Interstates and State Routes: From Friday 02/28/2020 at 8:00 PM through Monday 03/02/2020 at 6:00 AM Vulcan Materials Company will be repairing concrete pavement on I-24 WB from MM 178.9 to MM 178.7 in lane #1 (left lane). They will be removing and repairing concrete pavement. From Friday night through Monday morning the I-24 WB lane #1 will be closed. I-24 WB lane #2 and the Williams St on-ramp to I-24 WB will remain open to traffic. The lanes will be opened back up to traffic no later than 6:00 AM on Monday. The Tennessee Highway Patrol and a truck mounted attenuator with message board will be on site during the project. Estimated project completion date is March 2020.

REGION 2 On-call cable barrier repair on various Interstate and State Routes: The contractor may have short term shoulder closures in order to perform cable rail repair. Both travel lanes will remain open to traffic at all times on the interstate during any work that is performed. Estimated project completion date is December 2020.
