Tennessee Workers’ Compensation Administrator Installed as President of National Association

NASHVILLE – The Southern Association of Workers’ Compensation Administrators (SAWCA) named Abbie Hudgens President of the organization during its annual conference in Sandestin, Florida.

SAWCA is an association of 19 states from the south, as far north as Maine, and as far west as New Mexico.  SAWCA provides opportunities for regulators to meet each other, academics and industry professionals to share perspectives and improve workers’ compensation in the member states.

Hudgens has served as Administrator for the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation since September 2011.  In 2013 Tennessee reformed its workers’ compensation laws and Governor Bill Haslam appointed Hudgens to continue in her role as Administrator.

Hudgens served the city of Knoxville, and later Davidson County, as their Risk & Benefits Manager.

She briefly left government to provide consulting services for clients of her private practice, The Hudgens Group.

Hudgens then spent six years as the public sector representative on the Tennessee Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council.

Long active in professional organizations, Hudgens is also the vice president of the International Association of Industrial Accidents Boards and Commissions
