Ooltewah Market to Hold Farmers Appreciation Day

NASHVILLE-- Pick Tennessee Products will be at the Ooltewah Farmers Market for a special media day Thursday, July 23. Media will have access to the market’s vendors and farmers for interviews, and the market area will provide colorful images and video. 

Pick Tennessee Products spokesperson Tammy Algood will make and share samples of her fresh vegetable gazpacho recipe and offer Pick Tennessee produce recipe cards.

The Ooltewah Farmers Market is open every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. However, this Thursday marks their Farmers Appreciation Day, with a number of special activities and guests. Children who come to the market this Thursday will be asked to draw pictures about “What Farmers Do” for a contest to be judged by the farmers in attendance. The Collegedale Library will bring books relating to agriculture and will have story time at 3:30 and 5:15 p.m. An educational scavenger hunt will include prizes for every child who completes the hunt.

Adults can sign greeting cards available at the market’s information booth, thanking their favorite farmers. Hamilton County UT Extension’s June Pruett will share tips on food preservation and canning. Crabtree Farms, coordinators of the area’s Local Food Program, will host a booth to raise awareness about local foods.
