NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance’s (TDCI) Securities Division is participating in America Saves Week February 27 - March 4. The national savings campaign strives to build awareness about safe financial behavior among investors to help prevent financial fraud.

“Information is the best defense against losing hard-earned money to investment fraud,” said TDCI Assistant Commissioner for Securities Frank Borger-Gilligan. “As families throughout the Volunteer State discuss their saving and investing goals, we want them to know they can turn to the resources provided by the Tennessee Securities Division.”

To help investors initiate a healthy dialogue about their finances and establish safe investing habits, TDCI is making available a series of “Conversation Starters” developed by the North American Securities Administrators Association  (NASAA) and available in the Investor Education section on NASAA’s website.

Each Conversation Starter includes questions designed to help families kick-start an ongoing discussion about budgeting, saving, investing and avoiding investment frauds. The series includes sets of questions for couples just starting out, families, working adults and employers, retirees and seniors, military families, and for difficult times in life.

The Tennessee Securities Division can also provide detailed information about an investment product, broker or investment adviser, as well as additional investor education resources.  For more information, visit us online at https://www.tn.gov/commerce/section/securities  or call 615-741-2947.
