FF300 From Command to Firefighting: Using Thermal Imaging

From Command to Firefighting: Using Thermal Imaging

Overview: Thermal imaging in today’s fire service provides fire personnel with data to assist in the decision-making process. It is imperative personnel can not only obtain the data, but quickly interpret gathered data from the thermal imager.  This course is
designed to assist first arriving company/command officers with the 360-degree size up, as well as the on-going size up of the structure. The course also assists interior firefighting teams with interpreting data to facilitate rapidly locating and removing fire victims, locating flow paths, identifying rapidly deteriorating conditions inside the structure, and locating the seat of a fire and/or hidden fire in void spaces. Technology in thermal imaging has changed dramatically in recent years, thus providing fire personnel an effective tool to combat structural fires more safely. After completion of this course, personnel will be able to gather and interpret data obtained from the thermal imager, begin development of strategies and tactics that provide a safer approach to victim rescue and suppression of fire within a structure.
