Prevention Programs

The programs and strategies listed below are evidenced based programs that can be used to address sexual violence prevention: 

This program focuses on the following: 

  • Engaging men and boys as allies
  • Decreasing negative bystander behavior and decreasing dating violence perpetrations, including phsycial, sexual, and emotional abuse, among male high school athletes
  • Preventing sexual violence by demonsrating athletes' role in preventing violence and supporing victims while also teaching skills and reinforcing norms that reduce their own risk for future perpetration

This program focuses on the following:

  • Raising students' awareness of what constitutes healthy and abusive dating relationships
  • Raising students' awareness of dating abuse and its causes and consequences
  • Equipping students with the skills and resources to help themselves or friends in abusive dating relationships
  • Equipping students with skills to develop healthy dating relationships, including positive communication, anger management and conflict resolution

This program focuses on the following: 

  • Developing comprehensive and specific policies against harassment and discrimination
  • Increasing diversity within hiring practices
  • Post signs with supportive, inclusive messages and local resources for those who frequently experience harassment, discrimination, abuse and assault
  • Training staff on how to intervene to prevent and interrupt physical and/or sexual violence

This program focuses on the following:

  • Increasing knowledge and awareness of sexual abuse and harassment
  • Promoting prosocial attitudes and a negative view of dating violence and sexual harassment
  • Promoting nonviolent behvioral intentions in bystanders
  • Reducing the occurrence of dating and peer violence
  • Reducting the occurrence of sexual harassment
