About this event

Calling all public historians!

This symposium will offer workshops, discussions, and presentations that will hone your ability to interpret history in an engaging and effective manner to the public.

The first day will offer workshops and presentations, including:

  • Painting Historic Spaces with Linseed Oil Paint 101 - learn about linseed oil paint, how it was used on 18th and 19th Century structures, and techniques to get you started
  • Seeing the Story - Staging Historic Spaces to Tell Stories - learn how to enhance your site's interpretation with visual storytelling through staging.
  • It Has Pockets! Sew a 19th Century Pocket - sew a ladies' pocket based on an original example from Wynnewood
  • Making Time for Social Media at Historic Sites: How to Make a Social Media Plan and Stick to It.
  • And more!

That evening the group will gather for an informal dinner (not included in the cost) to enjoy fellowship and conversation with other public historians.

On the second day (optional), we will be offering tours of Cragfont, Wynnewood, and Hawthorn Hill and learn about the interpretation methods used and engage in conversations about new and innovative ways to interpret historic sites.

Closer to the symposium date we will send out a full schedule.

No meals are included and will be the responsibility of each attendee.

This symposium is geared toward those working in or training to work in the field of public history as either professionals or volunteers.
