Join us on February 29th @ noon CST for our first-ever installment of Telling the Story of Slavery to cover Hawthorn Hill!

This first-ever look at the enslaved experience at Hawthorn Hill will focus on the ties between slavery and music. Dr. Humphrey Bate claimed to have learned to play the harmonica from a man who had lived much of his life as a slave. The bluegrass music that made Dr. Humphrey Bate famous had roots in the music enslaved Africans brought with them. Learn more about how slavery influenced the music of Appalachia...Bluegrass.
