Flash Report #1 - Flooding

HIGHLIGHTS

• The State Emergency Operations Center is activated in Nashville to support local requests and respond as a result of catastrophic flooding in Middle Tennessee.

• Requests for assistance are being fulfilled for local response operations to support swift-water rescues and additional requests.

• The TN National Guard, TDOT, TN Highway Patrol, TN Department of Education, TN Department of Human Needs, TDEC, Fire Mutual Aid, and more are responding to the flooding mission.

CURRENT SITUATION

Heavy rainfall has caused dangerous flooding in Middle Tennessee. Primary impacted counties include Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, and Dickson.

The flooding situation in these counties is dangerous and evolving. TEMA is working with local and state partners to fulfill resource requests and support.

THP

• THP is assisting multiple local law enforcement agencies with traffic control, water rescues, and other general law enforcement duties in Dickson, Humphreys, and Hickman Counties.

• THP is conducting helicopter aquatic rescue team (HART) missions in Humphreys County.

TRANSPORTATION

• TDOT is monitoring road conditions. I-40 was previously closed, but has been reopened in both directions.

• Railway traffic has been stopped between Dickson, TN and Waverly, TN.

POWER OUTAGES/UTILITIES

• Humphreys County is reporting no cell phone service due to flooding utilities. Communications resources are being deployed to the area.

HUMAN SERVICES

• Three shelters are currently open or opening in Dickson, Hickman, and Humphreys counties.

• American Red Cross is reaching out to county EMAs to assess needs and provide support.

• TN Department of Education is active and providing support to area school districts.

PROTECTIVE ACTIONS/ KEY MESSAGES

• Refrain from driving to keep available streets and roads clear for emergency personnel.

• Continue to monitor radio and television broadcasts for further weather information and instructions.

• Charge electronic devices in case of loss of power.

• Do not attempt to cross flooded roads or walkways. Turn around, don’t drown

• Memphis: Mostly cloudy with a high of 88 degrees. Tonight, scattered thunderstorms with a low of 74 degrees.

• Nashville: Scattered showers and thunderstorms with a high of 83 degrees. Tonight, mostly cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms. Low of 73 degrees.

• Knoxville: Scattered showers and thunderstorms with a high of 87 degrees. Tonight, thunderstorms possible. Low around 70 degrees.
