Directions and Description


Site Directions: From Clarksville, at the junction of Hwy 41A and Hwy 79 on the west side of town, take Hwy 79 (Dover Road) 2.5 miles to Dotsonville Road, turn left onto Dotsonville Road, and go seven miles to the end of Dotsonville Road,  turn left, go 100 yards and turn left onto Chester Harris Road,  to 2.5 miles and bear left onto Woodrow and the WMA entrance is just up the road on your right.  The WMA boundary is marked with yellow plastic posts. There is a TWRA storage barn at the entrance.  Lat: 36.46098°N Long: -87.48144°W

Park outside the gate (do NOT block the gate) and walk into the WMA

The WMA is open year-round during daylight hours, but gates are closed at times, please note hunting seasons.   License fees may apply

Haynes Bottom WMA is located in Montgomery County and is approximately 1,000 acres, primarily managed for wintering waterfowl.  Opportunities for sportsmen to harvest deer and turkey as well as other game on the WMA during hunting seasons. The bottoms also have warm-season grasses and scrub that extend upon the hillsides.  Smaller tracts of mature upland forest are present, along with various treelines.  Gravel roads and ATV trails are available.

In winter, waterfowl are common to abundant.  The grass fields and brushy edges are great places for sparrows in winter and include White-throated SparrowsWhite-crowned Sparrow, and Song Sparrow.  In summer, Dickcissels and Red-winged Blackbirds are very common, Blue Grosbeak are regular, as are Northern BobwhiteSummer TanagerField Sparrow, and White-eyed Vireo.  Nearby are wet grassy areas, which may attract Marsh or Sedge Wrens during migration. The bottoms likely have American Bitterns in spring and fall and possibly Henslow's Sparrows in spring/summer.

Regulations & Season Dates


Night hunting, trapping, dog training, and fishing are prohibited in the waterfowl impoundment from Oct. 15. 2024 – May 31, 2025. Participating waterfowl hunters only in the bottoms from the beginning of the duck season occurring in Nov. 2024 – Feb 2025.

Big Game, Small Game, and Trapping - Same as statewide seasons, except archery equipment only for deer except muzzleloader and shotgun may be used during the Young Sportsman hunts. During the late duck season, waterfowl and small game hunting are open only on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday and the first and last day of each segment of the late duck season occurs in Nov. 2024 - Feb 2025.

Waterfowl - Waterfowl hunting is permitted only from registered blind sites beginning with the first day of the duck season occurring in Nov. 2024 - Feb. 2025.

Deer - Same as statewide, except archery equipment only.

Quail - Nov. 2, 2024 - Jan. 15, 2025.

Dog training - Open all year round. Daylight hours only.
