The annual week-long event is free and open to the public. Classes, sessions, and demonstrations are held at multiple locations in Oak Ridge and Knoxville, TN. Safety First TN draws participants from across Tennessee as well as the nearby states of Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA0 has teamed up with more than 100 public and private companies; federal, state, and local agencies; universities, colleges, vocational, and trades schools; and non-profit associations and organizations to present Safety Fest TN. TOSHA was one of the initial co-sponsors of this event which features safety and health experts landing over 100 free classes, sessions, demonstrations, a safety forum, a community safety lunch, and a safety expo.

Note: Although free, registration is required to ensure there is enough space available. Registration begins about months prior to each annual event.

Types of Classes and Demonstrations Offered: With a long list of subjects, there's a class, session, or demonstration designed for almost everyone, including safety and health professionals, managers, workers, and members of the public. Some of the many classes offered include Arc Flash Hazards, Back Safety, Chain Saw Safety, DOT General Awareness, Ergonomics, Fall Prevention, Human Performance Improvement, Incident Investigation, Ladder Safety, Machine Safety, Recordkeeping, Scaffolding, and OSHA 10-hour, 30-hour and 40-hour HAZWOPER training. In addition to classes, safety demonstrations from organizations as diverse as Pike Electric, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and UT LIFESTAR are presented.

At past events, over 1,300 people registered for approximately 3, 200 class seats, representing some 260 organizations from 128 cities in 21 states. They come from large and small businesses; non-profits; labor and trade unions; utilities; universities, colleges, vocational and trade schools; and federal, state, and local governments.

TOSHA is part of the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The central office is located in Nashville and there are five field offices in Knoxville, Memphis, Chattanooga, Kingsport, and Jackson. TOSHA offices voluntary and cooperative programs focused on reducing injuries, illnesses, and fatalities. It also offers on-site consultation services which help employers - both state and local government and private sector - comply with TOSHA or OSHA standards and identify and correct potential safety and health hazards.

TOSHA's outreach goes well beyond Safety Fest TN. Since 1977, the Tennessee Safety & Health Congress has been a joint venture between TOSHA and the American Society of Safety Engineers. The Congress offers a series of educational seminars to help employers and employees improve workplace safety and health, learn more about the latest trends, equipment, best practices, and network with peers. See more at: https://www.tnsafetycongress.org
