In 2019, the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR) released a study regarding Improving the Management of Government Owned Real Property. Their findings suggested that providing a searchable GIS database would provide for more robust analysis and help promote the highest and best use of the State’s real estate assets. Since the report’s publication, the State of Tennessee Real Estate Asset Management (STREAM), collaborated with STS and other business units within DGS to create this public-facing GIS dashboard. 

The State-Owned Land Dashboard is your comprehensive source for information on State property inventory. Our Geographic Information System (GIS) map is updated monthly with various details on State-owned properties.

Our dynamic map presents a range of data points for each property, including the parcel ID, address, county, legislative district, agency of jurisdiction, acreage, and status. Our goal is to offer transparency about State properties and create a platform that facilitates easy access to this vital data.

The dashboard, designed for public and agency use, is a versatile tool for exploring State-related properties. With user-friendly filter tools, users can search properties by parcel, offering a streamlined experience for those who know exactly what they're looking for. Alternatively, you can use our interactive map to locate properties geographically, a feature that provides a broader perspective of State-owned lands.

All the information displayed on our dashboard is sourced from the State of Tennessee Comptroller Property Assessment Data and our own internal data.

Address The street address of the property. 
Acreage The number of acres as given in the deed.
Agency of Jurisdiction The agency that manages the parcel. 
City The name of the city where the property is located, if applicable.
County The name of the county in which the property is located.
GISLINK A complete identification number used by the Assessor of Property to locate and identify the property. This identification number comprises the Map, Group, Control Map, and Parcel.
Parcel Name The name of the parcel, if applicable.
State Representative The State Representative elected to the district that the parcel is located within.
State Senator The State Senator elected to the district that the parcel is located within.

Asset is currently needed to support the agency's mission or function.

Future Mission Need

Asset is not currently needed to support the agency's mission or function but will be needed in the future.

Review For Excess

Asset that has the potential to be disposed of but needs additional research.

Excess

Property that does not have a current or future need.

Surplus

Asset that is excess and approved by the State Building Commissioner (SBC) to dispose of.

Disposed

Asset has exited the State's portfolio.

Cannot Be Disposed

Asset for which an agency has no long-term need, but the asset “cannot currently be disposed of” because of certain circumstances.
