Logs

Forest pests can be transported hundreds of miles by hiding in unprocessed logs coming from the forest.  Logs that are transported with the bark still intact are especially risky if coming from counties where invasive pests are known to exist.  In order to address these risks, quarantines often require logs to be treated in a variety of methods prior to transport. These methods can include debarking the logs as well as 1/2 inch of wood, chemical treatment, or heat treatment.
