The State of Tennessee has trapped at least 1 gypsy moth each year since the 1970s. The majority of these moths have hitched a ride on vehicles coming from an area of infestation! Cars, campers, outdoor equipment and even swing sets have all been the source of gypsy moth introductions in Tennessee over the past 50 years. Luckily no gypsy moth populations have become established thanks to efforts by cooperating agencies to detect and eradicate this insect. Other pests of concern, such as the spotted lanternfly, has not been found in Tennessee but can also be accidentally transported on vehicles in areas where infestations are present. Please take the time to inspect your vehicle, camper, or other items in your next move or visit to Tennessee for signs of these invasive pests.
