Professional Learning Opportunities

Below are the requirements to teach the personal finance course, according to Tennessee School Board of Education, Administrative Rule 0520-01-02-.03

(10) Personal Finance.

(a) A teacher of personal finance shall hold a valid secondary or K- 12 Tennessee teacher license; and
1. Complete a minimum of fourteen (14) clock hours of training provided by the State Department of Education on use of the state adopted Personal Finance curriculum; or
2. Complete fourteen (14) clock hours of training on Personal Finance provided by State Department of Education-approved organizations and/or institutions of higher education.
(b) Teachers licensed to teach Economics, Business, Marketing, and Family and Consumer Sciences meet these employment standards and may be exempted from the training requirements of subparagraph (a)

Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta Teacher Workshops

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is offering a 14-hour Personal Finance Teacher Training to provide secondary educators with the necessary credentialling for teaching the required Tennessee high school personal finance course.

This training will focus on financial responsibility and personal decision-making; education, careers, and income; planning and money management; credit and debt; risk management; and saving and investing.

Participants must attend both webinar sessions and complete all coursework by the established deadlines:

  • 2 Hours: Webinar, Tuesday, Jan. 25, 4-6 p.m. CT | 5-7 p.m. ET 
  • 2 Hours: Webinar, Tuesday, Feb. 22, 4-6 p.m. CT | 5-7 p.m. ET 
  • 10 Hours: Coursework with weekly deadlines
